2017 was a pretty kick ass year. Check out all the crazy shit we put together! And if you wanna, you can check out 2016 if you like.

December 31, 2017 - Calgary Beer Core Presents The Wild!

Oh my sweet butt, that was an incredible night. The weather in Calgary decided to be an absolute shithead, and the crowd braved the -40 outdoors to ring in the new year with this incredibly rad lineup. The Wild! were absolutely true to form and amazing. Supporting them, we got blown away by The Electric Revival, Open Air, and A-Bomb. The cold can fuck right off, we killed New Years with or without the weather.

 December 21, 2017 - Punk Vs Metal 2018 Round 2

Our second round of Punk Vs Metal, and another ridiculously good night of amazing music featuring local bands battling it out for supreme supremacy! And again, set after set of balls out awesome performances, with Western Death and Dethgod taking the win over Detherous and Our Old Ways.

December 9, 2017 - Blackest Sin - Blood Eagle CD Release

After far too long, our buddies in Blackest Sin are back with a new CD. The release party was absolutely crushing, and the album is total bad ass. If you are familiar with Blackest Sin, you won't be at all surprised by this. Huge thanks to Skullit, stab.twist.pull, Burning Effigy, and Vile Insignia for supporting sets.

DECEMBER 7, 2017 - Punk Vs Metal 2018 Round 1

We decided that it would be fun to work with the folks at Metalheads United to put together a Punk Vs Metal, and we were right. In the first round, we had four rad bands face off. All the performances were amazing, and the bands all deserve mad respect for kicking all the ass. In the end, it was Bayonet and Jezus Chrysler that took the wins over From Six Till Eight and HIVE.

November 18, 2017 - Calgary Beer Core Compilation III Release

The release of the Beer Core's third compilation CD was absolutely kick ass, with music all over the spectrum and great fun had by all. A huge thanks to the 32 bands that were a part of the CD, and to  Conniving Cadavers, The Borderguards, Citizen Rage, The Press Gang, Bring On The StormEnduring The Fallwalkalone, and The Difficult Brown for being a part of the release!

November 4, 2017 - Distortion Skate Day

We skateboard in the bar because we're grown ups, and we do what we goddamn well want.

That's right, the rad humans of Distortion let us turn the bar into a balls out awesome street skateboarding course. The skate competitors had a boatload of fun, and it was just a ridiculously fun time for all involved.

Did I mention we were skateboarding in the bar? I mentioned that, right?

AlsoNovember 4, 2017 - Distortion Skate Day After-Party

That was a hell of a night! After a great day skating in the bar, the show was absolutely amazing. Paint The Damage started the show off, and I have to say that I absolutely love this band. Sick Ritual are equally one of those bands that always get the blood moving for me, and led perfectly into our two out of town bands, the infamous Bogue Brigade and the kings of Edmonton street rock, LAMS. As a guy who loves street rock, it was a genuine honor to see LAMS on stage playing.

October 27, 2017 - Meltdown 1.2

We had a lot of fun with the Melt Down Mini-Festival! Unfortunately, Anciients were unable to play, but the show must go on, and it was an amazing night with great sets by Pelican Death Squad, Meggido, Without Mercy, and the inimitable Ninjaspy! It was a fantastic night, and a huge treat for us to work with some of our favorite Calgary promoters on this festival.

September 30, 2017 - Rock 4 Duane Hostland

This was another of those nights where we stand up and help our friends when they need us. We wanted to help Duane and his family as they face an unexpected diagnosis of stage 3B stomach cancer, and with the help of Ten Dead Crow, Southbound Crow, Silver Moss, and King Mammoth, we were able to raise over $6000 to help the family.

September 16, 2017 - Big Ugly Jim's Bday Bash

Honest answer? I remember the whole night. I remember starting the show with Pelican Death Squad, and them being absolutely amazing. I remember Heyoka's Mirror taking the stage and impressing the hell out of those assembled. I remember Full Groan Delinquent teaching us all to laugh. I remember Crystal Mess tearing the roof off the place. I remember the rad people. I remember the many, many drinks. At my age, memory is pretty special.

August 26, 2017 - Calgary Beer Core and Nite Owl Present

Thanks, Nite Owl, that was a hell of a party! A New Rhetoric started the show off and blew all of our minds, and then Pelican Death Squad were (as ever) monsters on stage.  Seven Shots From Sober are a band you absolutely need to witness in order to call it a fulfilling life! And of course, our buddies from The Electric Revival tore the roof off the joint to close out the night. Just a kick ass night from start to end.

August 12, 2017 - Beer Core Birthday Day 3

Day 3 was amazing.

Any show that starts with Truck! is going to be a great night, and I have to say, it was like old home week for me. The fellas haven't missed a beat. Sick Ritual put on easily the best show I've seen them play to date, and Rebuild/Repair showed the crowd exactly why they were the guys we sent on tour with Tartar Control. Speaking of which, oh my fuck. Tartar Control was absolutely brilliant. My honest assertion is that the crowd largely didn't know what to expect, and I don't think there was a mind unblown in the room. I can't wait to get these guys back to town for another show! Last came Citizen Rage, and I can't tell you how amazing these guys were. The new CD is amazing, and the show was another example of why I've got so much love for these guys.

August 11, 2017 - Beer Core Birthday Day 2

Dear diary,

Today I saw four local bands put on a show that absolutely proved why I have this love for live local music. Osyron had their Calgary debut, Train Bigger Monkeys were at their best, Concrete Funeral put on what is arguably a typical show for them (and by that, I mean they put on a ridiculously amazing set), and Hazzerd owned the night with the release of their new CD.

This show was spectacular from beginning to end, and I'm so glad to have been able to be a small part of it.

August 10, 2017 - Beer Core Birthday Day 1

Holy shit, do I ever love me some Golers. There's something they have on stage that most metal bands don't, and it's not something I can put into words. They just fucking rule.

Starting off the three days of birthday shenanigans with the horrible hicks was a fantastic. And opening sets from Bayonet, ChaosBeing, Path To Extinction, and Glare were amazing. It was my first chance to see Glare, and holy crap, were they rad!

July 1, 2017 - The Return Of DownwaY

And what a fantastic way to end off Canada Day, with the triumphant return of one of the best Canadian punk bands of days gone by as they return to fighting form!

The bands were all killer, but Downway was king, and they showed everyone that they are back and ready for so much more.

July 1, 2017 - Outdoor Skateboarding Competition and Live Music

What a fantastic way to spend Canada Day!

Mother Nature wanted to fight us, but we still managed to have a fantastic afternoon in the sun watching some killer ramp skating and catch performances by Shark Weak,  Jezus Chrysler, , Pelican Death Squad, and  Bogue Brigade (we had to move the show inside for this final set because rain is stupid)

June 17, 2017 - Statue of Demur CD Release Party

I think my favorite shows are CD release parties. Bands get that opportunity to absolutely shine and wow a huge crowd, and this was no exception. Leave The Living started the show off on an already manic note, and Concrete Funeral and Train Bigger Monkeys both were absolutely fantastic. Statue Of Demur came next and absolutely obliterated the stage, leaving Vancouver's Without Mercy the ridiculously difficult job of finishing off the night after so many great performances, and they absolutely succeeded. This was just a brilliant night of music, and we were honored to be a part of it.

June 10. 2017 - ConcertWorks and Calgary Beer Core present: Obey The Brave, Deez Nuts, Get The Shot,  guests

A huge thanks to our homies at ConcerWorks for having us be a part of a sick night of hardcore. I can't say words that describe how unreal this show was, and both Obey The Brave and Deez Nuts were completely fucking insane.

May 20th, 2017 - Calgary Beer Core presents Ryan Stock & Amberlynn: Comedy Daredevil

It was my first time seeing A-BOMB, and how could I not be blown away? Killer rock and roll from an all-girl band that reminded me of so many kick ass bands of days gone by... They're young, and they're going to be a band to watch.

It was my first time seeing Skullit, too. They are not young. But that doesn't mean they weren't fun too. Drop C tuned covers of classic songs as dirty, filthy, nasty style. This band... I gotta say, it reminded me of this amazing local band nobody saw from years ago called Harmony Moose. But they were cool.

And it was anything but my first time seeing Ryan Stock and AmberLynn, and I stood there right up front looking all dumb and smiling all big, blown away as ever by the ridiculously fun performance. I'm so happy these two have had the chance to do the fucked up shit they do and make a career out of it. The world is 18% radder with them doing their thing in it.

May 13th, 2017 -Calgary Beer Core presents Raygun Cowboys CD Release with guests Gutter Demons

Jesus, what a fucking night. Blast Train was awesome. Edmonton's The Preying Saints were awesome. Our co-headliners, Gutter Demons? Well, words can't express. The crowd ate up every second of their set (as they always do), and the fellas were in fine form. Seriously, if you missed them, then the next time we can smuggle them into town I HIGHLY SUGGEST you don't miss them again. And the Raygun Cowboys were there to celebrate the release of their new album, The Cowboy Code. Not only is it an incredibly kick ass album, but the show was even better. There's something about these band that just makes me happy, and they were in peak form.

May 11th, 2017  -Calgary Beer Core presents The Mahones

Such a fun night, folks. We started off with From Under The Stone, who set the mood just perfectly with their frenetic celtic punk rock. Then we switched gears to our pals in Copsickle, who played like 200 songs in 25 minutes, and they absolutely rocked. Then it was time for Craic The Lens, who did not disappoint with their Irish-enfused rock and roll. And last came The Mahones. I gush about these pricks, but it's with good reason, and ONCE AGAIN I was proved to be a goddamn prophet, because they were every bit as good as I had said and then some. All in all, it was just a fantastic night of fun.

April 28, 2017 - Calgary Beer Core presents Get Fuckin'Trashed

What an awesome night of great music! Nate Trash put some amazing bands together for a punk rock show that made my heart go all happy. We started with Red Deer's Self Help Books, and they were a bunch of fun. Next up came our pals from The Difficult Brown who are always just a blast. There were lineup challenges, but Mikey Bastard stepped in on bass and they performed as a three piece. It's never the same when people are missing, but it was a hell of a set nonetheless. Up next were The Neilsens, in from Edmonton, and again, it was just a fantastic set by a kick ass band. Then came Medicine Hat's Western Death, who I have been looking forward to seeing for a long time and I was absolutely not disappointed. Check these fuckers out! We closed out the night with From Six Til Eight, a local band I absolutely adore. They played an extra long set, and all of it was awesome. One of the things I love best (and this fits for both F6T8 and Difficult Brown) is seeing bands grow and tighten up and become amazing. There were just so many reasons I was giddy for this show, and every band lived up to my horribly unrealistic expectations.

March 11, 2017 - Cuz Mike's Epic Birthday Bash And Girl Tank Top Release Party

We had a whole metric shitload of fun with this show. Cuz Mike's old as balls, and we're talking about really old balls, and we wanted to put on a rock and roll rockstravaganza for him. So we did.

With performances by the Alice In Chains tribute band Dirt, plus sets by Aces, The North Sound, and Marwood Way, it was a great way for us to release our super sexy lady's Beer Core tank tops. Cuz Mike looked so stunning in one, but none of the pictures turned out. Dag, yo.

Feb 25, 2017 - Ghetto Gala 2017

The Ghetto Gala is an annual fundraiser, and this year, we raised money for Music Heals, a fantastic organization that funds music therapy programs. We really like them. To prove our love, we put on this rad show with bands all over the musical spectrum. Unfortunately, Frenzy featuring Karma Gang couldn't make it, but we had a riot with The Shillelaghs (Celtic punk), Iron Tusk (Stoner Rock), Jezus Chrysler (Gloriously InappropriatePunk Rock), Sage Rhoades (Grungy Rock And Roll), World Class White Trash (Metalfuck), and From Six Til Eight (Poppy Punk Rock).

Jan 27, 2017 - Calgary Beer Core Presents The Return Of Sedition Choir AGAIN

I'll admit it, Sedition Choir is one of my all time favorite local bands, and I was sad as hell when Pat told me he was moving far away to a distant land, but every now and then he is able to put on a show with the lads, and I jump at the chance because I love these pricks. A night of fun-as-balls punk rock was just what the doctor ordered, so we stacked the bill with From Six Til Eight, Nevertime High, and Carpet Bombers just because we bloody well can.

Some pictures from when we sponsored Punk Rock Bowling
